The phrase had lost its charm for Asha. She had heard it being said umpteen times, and had become frustrated at the cheesy line everyone seemed to say to every other person they met. What did they know of love and its meaning! People who claim to be ‘in love’ today, seemed to hate each other tomorrow. Asha firmly believed in the policy of not saying what you do not mean. She had been told the ‘I love you’ by a couple of guys who she was sure would have told another dozen girls too.
As she sat in the auto headed home after the tiring interview, she couldn’t help but wonder what kind of a guy he would have been in his younger days, how many girls’ hearts would he have broken, how would he behave with women. Ohh if only she had a way of observing him and seeing how he treats other people who cross his path.
For a moment she regretted having told her mom that she doesn’t need the guy’s photo, how would she be able to recognize him? That’s right, her mom had told her he would be waiting for her at the table number 13 in the café, probably having ordered two coffees or whatever he liked, trying to impose his tastes upon her from the first meeting itself. With a grin she thought, I wouldn’t grant you that pleasure darling; for when you saunter in towards the table, you will already have me waiting over there. The brilliant idea to wait for him had struck Asha and she was pretty pleased at herself. She could reach there in time and have time to make herself comfortable before the guy walked in, and started judging her.
As soon as she reached her apartment she logged in to check whether she had received any mails, or a reply from the Editor. Having tackled a few emails and a couple of other friend requests, she picked up the book from last night and settled down by the large window opening out to the balcony, hoping that this guy would not try to impress her by an “I Love You”.

Girls in India are caught in the drift when they reach a particular age. They suddenly face a dilemma as to what to focus on in their life, whether to make a career and ensure a living or to get married and secure their life. Girls who remain single after the so called marriageable age are frowned upon by the society and are considered a burden for their families.
Throughout the month of April, thanks to the AtoZ Challenge, I am trying to portray the life of Asha, a common Indian girl with dreams and aspirations. Everyday we focus on one alphabet starting from A on April 1st till Z on April 30th. Stick with me till the end of the journey and do tell me what you think of my writing and my Asha.

ReplyDeleteCarol's Notebook
Thank you Carol. Do let me know what you thought about it after you are done reading. Would love to have some feedback.
DeleteSeriously the word love seems to just loss its charm if not used from heart.
ReplyDeleteSo true :(
DeleteI was here, it took me all day to read it and I'm glad I did, I decided a long time ago that I needed more love in my life so I started using it more in everyday interactions. I can love a new child when I meet them I can love a person after a great conversation, sometimes it is fleeting, but it was still love. :)
ReplyDeleteI am just so glad you took time out to read all the posts in the series. It makes me so happy :) :)

Poor Asha! I hope she finds true love!
